Scope

Pharmaceutical Care is defined by Hepler and Strand as the responsible provision of drug therapy to achieve definite outcomes to improve a patient’s quality of life.

Pharmaceutical Care is a health care need associated with any drug therapy and is a shared responsibility for professions in contact with drug therapy.

Thus, Pharmaceutical Care is a responsibility for pharmacists and a key area in developing the professional role based on health care needs. It is included as a part of Good Pharmacy Practice, and it was the theme for a WHO conference in Tokyo 1993 and is by the conference and by WHO recommended as an important role for the pharmacist.

Projects should comprise the above in the basic concept mentioned qualities to be considered as Pharmaceutical Care projects in the PCNE frame.
