The 7th PCNE Working Conference
The last PCNE Working Conference was held in Manchester, on 23 - 26thMarch 2011. The
participants discussed the question 'Does Pharmaceutical Care Impact on the Safety of
Individual Patients?'
The conference was held in
the Chancellors Hotel and Conference centre, part of the University of Manchester. The picture on the right represents most of the participants in the conference. March 2011: Medication review Mini-Symposium
Directly after the working conference of PCNE, a mini symposium was held on medication review under supervision of the PCNE Medication Review Working Group. A number of important issues were raised that will be discussed in a future Working Symposium. Go to the page of the Medication Review Working group for more information.
Awards for abstracts at the 7th PCNE Working Conference
During the 7th PCNE Working conference in 2011, a jury selected the best oral communication and the best poster.
The winner of the PCNE Poster Award 2011, funded by the German Förderinitiativ Pharmazeutische Betreuung, was Manfred Krüger from the Linner Apotheke in Krefeld, Germany. He presented the work on pharmaceutical care in diabetes in a poster entitled: ‘Home medication review for patients with insulin-dependen diabetes mellitus . The authors were Manfred Krüger, Dr. Nina Griese, Dr. Suzanne Schorr and Prof. Dr. Martin Schulz.
The winner of the PCNE Presentation Award for the best oral communication, funded by the Pharmaceutical Press, was Linda Agaard Thomsen from Pharmakon, Hillerød, Denmark, who presented her work on automated dose dispensing. The authors were Dr. Linda Agaard Thomsen, Hanne Herborg and Dr. Charlotte Rossing. The title of the presentation was ‘From machine to mouth: How can automated dose dispensing lead to safer and more effective patient medication?’.
For the 2011 conference, 22 abstracts were accepted, of which four for an oral presentation. All abstracts can now be found on the conference web site, by clicking on 'Abstracts Posters/Orals' and have been published in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy (issue 2011-4).
General Assembly, Spring 2011
The last general assembly of the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe Association was held in Manchester, United Kingdom on the 23rd March 2011 at the site of the 7th Working Conference: The Chancellors Hotel. Two new institutional members were accepted:
- The Pharmaceutical Institute, Dept. Clinical Pharmacy, University of Bonn, Germany, represented by Dr. Oliver Schwalbe
- The Pharmacy department of the University of Brno, Czech Republic, represented by Alena Petrikova
The observership of the of Redsaf, represented by Aldo Alvarez from Peru during the General Assembly in Lisbon in 2010, was now confirmed.
Dr. Søndergaard retires from the Board
In March 2010 Birthe Søndergaard has stepped down as a board member of PCNE . She has left university, and is now working for the Association of Danish Pharmacies, Danmarks Apotekerforeningen.
PCNE Symposia 2009
All reports on the PCNE Working Symposia in Geneva (2 and 3 November 2009) are now on-line. Additional information can also be obtained from the PCNE professional secretariat.
New version of the PCNE-DRP classification
A new version of the DRP classification has been published (V6.2). It has now been reviewed by the members of the PCNE working group on DRP-classifications and discussed during the PCNE symposium in Geneva in November 2009. If you wish too use this version, you can download it from here. Please note that this new version is not yet validated (apart from face-validity issues), and it is no longer compatible with previous versions.
General Assembly September 2009 in Istanbul
The 2009 general assembly of PCNE was held on the 4th of September in Istanbul, Turkey. Members can find the minutes and other papers for the meeting in the Members Only part of this website. Two new members of the board have been elected, Dr. Mary Tully (now Chairperson, UK) and Dr. Maria Cordina (Secretary, Malta). Dr. Martin Henman and Dr. Foppe van Mil stepped down as board members, but will still be the professional secretary of PCNE. After presentation of her work, Prof. Ljiljana Tasic from Belgrad, with her department, was accepted as new member. The Department of Pharmacy of the University of Sydney was accepted as an observer-member, after a presentation by Dr. Tim Chen. Their presentations can be found at the members-only part of this website.
The PCNE fora
In July 2009, new 'Discussion Fora' have been installed, to enable especially the PCNE members (but also other interested parties) to discuss different issues in the field of pharmaceutical care. Contact the PCNE professional secretariat if you are a PCNE member and wish to contribute to the fora. Non-members can view all content, but not contribute.
