August 2010: Medication review workshop

During the 2010 International Social Pharmacy Workshop (ISPW) in Lisbon, a workshop will be held on "Medication review, the PCNE way". This workshop can be attended on the 26th of August, and starts at 13.45h. For more information see the ISPW web site.

PCNE Working group on medication review

In 2009 a PCNE Working Group on Medication Review was estabished in Vimeiro, Portugal. The working group is currently chaired by Prof.Dr. Kurt Hersberger and Dr. Foppe van Mil.
Medication review is a technique to detect drug-related problems in the medication of individuals. There can be several approaches: retrospective, prospective or ad hoc. Alle approaches have their specific challenges. Which appraoch can be chosen depends of the available expertise, and available information. As for the latter, in a hospital setting the available information usually will differ from the community setting. The PCNE working group is in the process of developing pathways, protocols and guidelines for different types of medication review.

PCNE Working Symposium on medication review 2009: materials on-line

The the definition of medication review, and the different approaches have been extensively discussed during an PCNE Working Symposium on Medication in Geneva, on the Tuesday 3rd November 2009. There were 36 experts present who discussed definitions, the three types of medication review and the information that is necessary for performing medication reviews.
