Working conferences and other PCNE events
The PCNE Working Conferences are the educational events of the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe. Such conferences typically last 3-4 days and have a number of workshops. The workshops last at least 12 hours so that proper results can be reached. Reports and proceedings of the Working Conferences are available for all interested parties.
New working Conference 2011
The PCNE Working Conference 2011 will be held in
Manchester, United Kingdom from 23-26 March 2011.
Don’t forget to note these important dates in your
agenda! The working title of the conference is ’Does
Pharmaceutical Care impact on the safety of individual
patients? A pharmaceutical care research working
conference’. The conference will be held in the
Chancellors Hotel and Conference Center in Manchester. It
is located outside the city centre, and close to the
airport. More information about the venue can be found

Interesting program
The organising committee for the 7th Working Conference met
in April 2010, and decided that the conference format will
not be changed, compared to previous years. Only the way
posters are presented may be adapted. The workshop topics
and responsible tutors are:
- (1) How to set up a PhC research study (Nina Griese)
- (2) How to develop/investigate individual models of pharmaceutical care as a research intervention (Charlotte Rossing)
- (3) How to measure individualised patient safety (Kurt Hersberger)
- (4) Integrating and using multidisciplinary patient records (Veerle Foulon)
- (5) Feedback from patients as to individualisation of their care (Filipa Costa)
Working Conferences

Working Symposia
The PCNE Working Symposia are the creative events of the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe. Such symposia typically last 1 day and have a small number of dedicated workshops. In the workshops, pharmaceutical care related topics are further developped, like the drug-related problem classification, approaches to medication review or joint European research projects. Reports and proceedings of the Working Conferences are available for all PCNE members. Some reports are also available to other interested parties.
Awards
The Glinnt award for the best oral communication
during the 2009 Working Conference of the PCNE (sponsored
by Glinnt, Portugal) went to
- Tenni PC, Peterson GM, Williams MOC for the oral
communication on 'Clinical Interventions in Australian
Community Pharmacies';
The ABDA poster award 2009 for the best poster
during the 2009 Working Conference (sponsored by the
Pharmaceutical Care foundation of the German Pharmacist
Federation, ABDA) went to
- J Krska, C Morecroft, H Poole, P Rowe, R Auckland for
their description of 'Developing a medicines-related
quality of life measure'
The ABDA poster award 2007 for the best poster
during the 2007 Working Conference of the PCNE (sponsored
by the Pharmaceutical Care foundation of the German
Pharmacist Federation, ABDA) went to two research teams.
The lucky winners were:
- Charlotte Rossing, Hanne Herborg, L. Sorensen, Pharmakon,
Hillerød, Denmark for their poster 'Adherence
problems among type 2-diabetics'
- Catriona Bradley, Martin Henman. School of pharmacy,
Trinity College Dublin, Ireland with 'Studies of health
promotion and weight control in Community Pharmacy in the
Republic of Ireland'
Several reports available
PCNE Symposia 2009
The the definition of drug-related problems, and the new
version of the PCNE-DRP classification have been
extensively discussed during an PCNE Working Symposium on
Drug Related Problems in Geneva, on the Monday 2nd November
2009. There were 18 experts present who discussed
definitions, the new version of the PCNR DRP classification
and validation issues. On Tuesday 3rd November 2009 a
Working Symposium on Medication Review was held, also in
Geneva. The workshops dealt with different levels of
medication review, and aimed at compiling different guiding
documents. There were twenty-eight participants who
discussed about the different issues involved.

The 2009 Working Conference, with the theme 'Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care Research' has been great, in spite of the windy weather.
